The Philippine government exerts more effort in expanding developments from Central Luzon down to the South.  Local projects open more opportunities to the growing economy of the cities in Southern Luzon. One explicit example is the ongoing progress of Sorsogon City, the hub of trade and commerce.

Sorsogon City is the capital of the province of Sorsogon, located in the Bicol Region. It is one of the leading and most highly urbanized cities and by far, one of the most promising in terms of development.

Its strategic location has given way to a vast commercial hub and district composed of local businesses and franchises of the national and regional business chains.  Its establishments are highly concentrated in the downtown but the local government spreads out new opportunities, prioritizing extension of projects and commercial activities in other barangays like Balogo and Cabid-an.

Here are some of the latest developments in Sorsogon City that just make every Sorsoguenos’ life a lot more convenient!

1. Sorsogon Coastal Road

In August 2020, a new coastal road from Rompeolas or the Sorsogon City’s baywalk up to Barangay Balogo, was opened. This new 5.52km four-lane road is considered as one of the biggest projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the Bicol Region. The road was built to ease up traffic conditions in the main road of Sorsogon City and provide protection from storm surge to the areas around the city.

2. CitiHardware

Citihardware, a construction retail store, recently launched its 74th and biggest branch in Bicol located along National Highway, Brgy. Cabid-an, Sorsogon City. The store is also strategically located near Lessandra Sorsogon, the only exclusive subdivision in Sorsogon City offering affordable house and lot packages. Located just a minute away from the subdivision, future homeowners now have a nearby store where they can purchase materials for home improvement needs.

3. Puregold

Located at Magsaysay St., Sorsogon City, the newly-opened Puregold is a one-stop-shop supermarket. The people of Sorsogon now have another supermarket available perfect for their right-on-the-budget grocery needs.

Aside from this newly-opened road and stores, another commercial establishment in Sorsogon City is underway. SM Supermall is currently being constructed in Brgy. Balogo, Sorsogon City. Situated beside the Grand Terminal, the 13-hectare SM City Sorsogon is the biggest mall in the Bicol region in terms of land area.

Another upcoming road development in Sorsogon is the Toll Road 5 (TR5), a 420-kilometer, four-lane expressway starting from the terminal point of the now under construction SLEX Toll Road 4 at Barangay Mayao, Lucena City in Quezon to Matnog, Sorsogon, near the Matnog Ferry Terminal. This project will connect Quezon and Bicol provinces and will provide better and safer access to tourist destinations and ports. This project will also address traffic congestion in the Bicol region and will reduce travel time from Lucena to Matnog from 9 hours to 5.5 hours.

Soon enough, Sorsogon City will become a more progressive city. It will attract more investors and open more job opportunities for the Sorsoganons. Living in this promising city is an advantage! If you’re looking for your next home, consider investing in Lessandra Sorsogon.
